Chance The Rapper Clowns Major Labels On Stage

Image
We all know Chance The Rapper is no fan of labels, but on the first night of his “Be Encouraged” Tour, the artist made sure the labels knew too. During the San Diego, Calif., stop this past Monday (April 24), the indie rapper made a bold statement on stage. As Chance performed “No Problem” a series of images were thrown up onto the screen depicting a number of famous, gigantic record labels logos, but each was given a different twist. Def Jam Records, became “Don’t Join Records.” Atlantic became “Titanic.” Aftermath Entertainment became “Can’t Do Math Entertainment.” Sony became “Phony.” And so on. All this while tauntingly showing off the three Grammys he won this year for Best New Artist, Best New Album for Coloring Book and Best Performance for “No Problem,” which featured his buddies 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. Those are three awards Chance wouldn’t have been able to win if the Recording Academy hadn’t changed its rules to allow streaming-only titles to be counted for nomination

Chance The Rapper Raises $100,000 For Charity At Birthday Bash

Image
For his 24th birthday party, Chi-town’s Chance The Rapper did something special. He held a sold out turn up at Studio Paris nightclub in the Windy City with famous friends Ludacris and T-Pain and Sesame Street ‘s Big Bird. Dubbed “Chance the Birthday,” the party raised $100,000 for his charity, SocialWorks, which aims to empower young people through the arts, education and civic engagement while fostering leadership, accessibility and positivity among youths throughout Chicago. One highlight was a custom birthday cake made to look like a double-decker Harold’s Chicken bucket and a bottle of kiwi-strawberry Mistic — references Chance has dropped in his lyrics. Sunday’s generosity comes after the rapper born Chancellor Bennett made headlines in March, when he criticized Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner and donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools.
